J.B. Moore was one of the most influential Indian Traders on the Navajo Reservation. From 1896-1911 he ran the Crystal Trading Post in New Mexico. He was responsible for promoting Navajo weaving as a commercial venture. He worked with his weavers to develop designs that would appeal to Anglo buyers and gave them examples of oriental rugs that were fashionable in American homes. In 1911, Moore published a catalog of Navajo rugs that could be ordered or custom designed by pattern, color, and size. Through his efforts, Navajo Rugs became popular throughout the United States.
