Blankets were originally woven as itemAdd News of personal clothing. Most of the “wearing blankets” date from the 1700s to 1875. Horizontal blankets were often referred to as Chief Blankets and were originally decorated with simple stripes. Vertical blankets called “serapes” were also decorated with stripes or more elaborate designs. In contrast, women’s blankets were often more muted and smaller than Chief blankets while child’s blankets were usually vertical with striped designs of fine detail. The weavers also wove many saddle blankets for their horses.
