Red Mesa Chief Style Blanket/Rug
The Navajo Chief blankets were highly prized by all Indian tribes who often traded for them. The early striped blanket became more elaborate as rectangles and diamonds were inserted into the stripes and other colors were inserted. The Chief Blanket design or Chief Pattern has remained popular up to this day and has been continually reinterpreted by weavers.
Teec Nos Pos, which means Circle of Cottonwoods, and Red Mesa Trading Posts are both in the Four Corners area of Arizona. They both produce large bordered floor rugs. The Teec Rugs have many Persian Rug influences in their design elements while Red Mesa rugs often feature more dazzler, or serrated designs.
